Teamwork
February – Week 1-2
Due by Friday, February 17th
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Every month students will receive a new package (hopefully by email, so make sure we have your email address!) and will usually need to complete ½ by mid-month and the other ½ by month’s end. If it is turned in on time, they will receive a Good Job Stripe for each of the 2 turn in periods. There will be no more “regular” Good Job stripes (for just doing good in Karate class), just these - for doing good in Karate class, at home, AND at school! I know you will love it and it will help you and your child form a stronger bond!
Thanks,
Sensei

Teamwork: - The work or activity of a number of persons acting together as a group.
Although some would argue that martial arts is an individual sport, the truth is, you are learning martial arts because a team of people taught your instructor. When you are in class, not only are you learning from your instructor, but the people who taught him or her. You can also learn from the student next to you or in front of you. In other words, you have a team of people helping you perfect your style.
When you first started Karate, you may not have known anyone. As you continued to come to class, you got to know some of the other students and hopefully mad some friends. As you did, you learned to work together with the other students and to make your class a team!
1. Do you work together with the other students in class to be the best you can be? __________________
2. What are 2 examples, of something you do in class, that you do that can help your TEAM? ____________________________________________________________________________________

3. What is something you can this month do to get new "teammates" (more friends to join classes)?

All good Karate students are responsible for their actions inside and outside the Dojo. To earn your monthly stripe, you will need to do three different jobs at home without being told by your parents every week. These could include washing the dishes, picking up your room, or feeding the dog.
Fill in the three jobs that you have done at home without being told and ask your parents sign below.

February – Week 3-4
Due by Friday, March 2nd
“No one can whistle a symphony. It takes a whole orchestra to play it."
- H. E. Luccoc
There are many opportunities to e part of a team. Teamwork can include being part of an athletic team, working on school projects, participating in family activities, doing chores, being on the Demo Team, etc. Be a team at home. It doesn't matter if you have a single parent, or 5 brothers and sisters. Learn how to work together to do things around your home.
Just like your home, students need to work together to take care of the Dojo. If you see trash on the floor, pick it up. If someone left their shoes in the way, move them to where they should go. If you see the chairs are crooked, fix them. Just doing these simple things shows you care and are part of the bigger picture - The OKS TEAM!
1. Name 4 teams you are on right now.

2. What else could TEAM stand for? :o) Have fun with this and put anything!

3. If you were the only one living in your house and you had to do everything (cook your food, laundry, clean, work, pay bills, etc), how hard would it be?________________
If you don't help at the house, then that might be how your parents feel! If you were doing all that stuff and someone started helping you, would that make things easier? ____________ Just like at the Dojo, help clean up at home. Only a little work gets a big result!
