INTERMEDIATE REQUIREMENTS (RED/BLUE/PURPLE)

Intermediate Curriculum: Red/Blue/Purple

Recommended Equipment is a Bo, Sparring Gear, and Book “Essence of Okinawan Karate-do”

Cycle 1

Month 1:

Standing Basics – Spear Hand Thrust (Jigotai stance), Side Kick (standing up)

Dojo Customs and Etiquette

 

Month 2:

Moving Basics- Reinforced Middle Block (Front stance), Roundhouse Kick (Natural stance), Front Side Kick (Natural stance)

Precepts for Mastery of Katate-Do #1

 

Month 3:

Kata- Fukyugata I

Dojo Customs and Etiquette

 

Month 4:

Kata-Fukyugata II

Precepts for Mastery of Katate-Do #2

 

Month 5:

Bo – 3 Basic Strikes

Perseverance - Pushups (Student will do as many as they can)

Month 6:

Kumite- Basic Inside Cross Deck Blocking with counter at the end (High, Middle, Low, and Striking (all in Jigotai stances)

TEST at end of 6 Months

 

Cycle 2

Month 1:

Standing Basics – Triple Punching (Face, Chest, Low in Jigotai stance), Cat Stance Front Snap Kick

Dojo Customs and Etiquette

 

Month 2:

Moving Basics- Skip and Roundhouse Kick, Skip and Side Kick (relaxed stances), and Flying Front Snap Kick (Natural Stance)

Precepts for Mastery of Katate-Do #4

 

 Month 3:

Kata- Ananku

Dojo Customs and Etiquette

 

Month 4:

Kumite (Self-Defense techniques)- Front Choke (2 ways) and Wrist Grabs (2 ways)

Month 5:

Perseverance- Squats (as many as you can do)

Month 6:

Bo – 3 Basic Blocks

Cycle 3

Techniques learned in Japanese

 Month 1:

Standing Basics - Zenkutsu Mae-geri (Front Stance, Front Snap Kick)

Moving Basics -  Nekoashi Mae-geri (Cat Stance Front Snap Kick)

                            Nekoashi Chudan Shuto-Uke (Cat Stance Middle Knife Hand Block)

                            Nekoashi Gedan Shuto-Uke (Cat Stance Low Knife Hand Block)

 Month 2:

Kata- Pinan Nidan

Precepts for Mastery of Katate-Do #1

 

Month 3:

Kumite- 1 Step Kumite Face Punch Attack v/s High Block (Inside and Outside) and Inside Punch Block

Month 4:

Bo – Basic 4 count Bo Kumite #1

Perseverance – Sit-ups (as many as you can do)

Month 5:

Atemi- Front Snap Kick Break

Month 6:

Bo – 45 degree Strike/Block, Circle Disarm, Front Stance Switching Sides

Precepts for Mastery of Katate-Do #3

  

TEST at end of 6 Months

 

 

 

***Exit Review Exam 2 Weeks Before Graduation to be able to get Green Belt and

Move to Advanced Class

--- (Exit Exam is FREE (Graduation is not). Student must memorize all 6 Precepts and be able to perform all techniques from all Prior Cycles)
